Bantry Farmer’s Market

The market in Bantry town is one of the largest in Cork. It takes place every Friday in the square and runs from early morning until early afternoon. The usual array of merchandise which includes: fruits, vegetables, meats, meals, baked goods, and household items, gets even bigger on fair days (the first Fridays of the month), when it is not unusual to see animals and birds being sold and displayed.

Contact – Market Manager – 086 7944419.  If you’d like to set up a stall and sell at the Market – you need to provide your own table and shelter, and book your space by texting “Bantry”, your name, length of stall, type of product, and if vehicle required at stall, on Thursday afternoon before 6 PM in advance of the Friday market. If you don’t supply all of this information then we cannot guarantee to find a space for you.

Bantry House & Gardens

In 1739 Captain Richard White and his family purchased Blackrock House (now called Bantry House). As the family prospered they added to their holdings of land around the house, making it a total of 320 square kilometers.

The original house was extended and transformed by the second Earl of Bantry, his family and descendants. They brought with them artefacts from all over Europe and Russia to decorate the premises.

They also envisioned the different levels of gardens with their views opening up onto the glory of Bantry Bay.

It is a tribute to their work that the eighth and ninth generations of the family still own the gardens today and have opened them up for visitation to the public. Those looking to spend a few days in the area, stay at the bed and breakfast or to plan an event like a wedding, are always welcome.
